Jared Leto: 'People think 'Dallas Buyers Club' is my first movie'

30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto has opened up about the success he has enjoyed as both a musician and an actor, and joked that people still think he's just a band member with silver screen dreams.

He most recently starred in 'Dallas Buyers Club', in which he plays a transgender and HIV positive character named Rayon, and impressively won a Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture.

During a new interview with Variety magazine, the star explained that he is often surprised to learn that people believe he's a rock star looking to get film roles because he began his career as an actor: "There are people who think ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ is my first movie. I’ve become a musician looking for an acting job, rather than an actor looking to make an album."

Leto recently told Access Hollywood that the role changed his outlook on life:

"Rayon was beautiful inside and I hope that if I was ever faced with the enormous challenges and the brutal circumstances that she was faced with, that I would have the grace and the levity and the kindness that she did. She's a real person, she's this living, breathing, beautiful creature and I'm really grateful that I had the chance to get to know her."
