Jared Leto confronts heckler who accuses him of 'trans-misogyny'

30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto was recently at a movie event and a woman in the crown heckled him about being a straight male playing a transgendered woman.

Earlier this week at the  Santa Barbara International Film Festival, a woman confronted actor Jared Leto and declared that he shouldn't have portrayed a HIV-positive transgendered woman in the new film, 'Dallas Buyers Club'

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the unnamed woman yelled out: "Trans-misogyny does not deserve an award. You don't deserve an award for portraying a trans-woman, because you're a man."

Leto, upon hearing her remarks, stopped what he was doing to stand up for himself and said: "Because I'm a man, I don't deserve to play that part?.... So you would hold a role against someone who happened to be gay or lesbian - they can't play a straight part?"

She then added that straight people playing transgendered characters always win prizes and get acclaim, to which Leto countered: "Then you've made sure people that are gay, people that aren't straight, people like the Rayons of the world would never have the opportunity to turn the tables and explore parts of that art."
