Jared Leto bags Best Supporting Actor Oscar

Jared Leto took home his first Academy Award last night (March 2).

The movie industry paid tribute to its top stars at this year's Oscars and the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman bagged the Best Supporting Actor gong.

It came for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, in which Leto plays a transgender HIV sufferer.

The singer and actor used his acceptance speech to highlight global issues, saying: "To all the dreamers out there...in places like Ukraine and Venezuela, I want to say, we are here. And as you struggle to make your dreams happen, to live the impossible, we're thinking of you tonight."

Leto's Dallas Buyers Club colleague Matthew McConaughey won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in the flick.

In the Best Original Song category meanwhile, the likes of U2 and Pharrell Williams lost out to 'Let It Go' from the Disney flick Frozen.

Williams was among the acts performing on the night, whilst P!nk ran through a rendition of 'Over The Rainbow'.

Other winners at this year's Oscars included 12 Years a Slave (Best Picture) and Alfonso Cuaron (Best Director).
