5SOS not allowed to meet fans at Sydney airport: 'We absolutely hate how that went'

Australian pop-rock group 5 Seconds Of Summer have just arrived home following their successful north American tour, but weren't given the chance to greet supportive fans who had camped out at Sydney Airport to celebrate their return.

After being called out by one of their fans for not stopping to greet people who had waited for them at the airport, member Ashton Irwin took to his official Twitter page to explain that the band are all really upset by how security was handled because they wanted to say hello to the followers who welcomed them back to Australia, but weren't allowed:

"They didn't let us, I absolutely hated how that went, I never want that to happen again, I'm sorry x."

16-year-old Kristen Rose from Campbelltown told reporters at the Sydney Morning Herald that she was really disappointed by the way the situation was handled: "We were really disappointed. So many of us had been waiting for more than five hours. We didn't want to mob them."

"When security marched them through they wouldn't let them interact with us. Ashton stepped forward to give a girl a hug and a big security guard shoved her out of the way. We weren't allowed to even get within conversation distance. I don't blame the boys they always go out of their way to do whatever they can for fans."
