5SOS's Ashton on bullying: 'You have to let go of things... it gives us things to write songs about!'

Australian heartthrobs 5 Seconds Of Summer recently revealed they weren't that popular with their classmates back at school, but they decided to rise above the negativity and just prove themselves through their music.

During an interview with B105 radio, they were asked if they're ever tempted to say to bullies or people that doubted them something along the line of 'look at us now' and drummer Ashton Irwin explained that nothing good can come from having that kind of attitude:

"I don't know, I think if we had that attitude still it wouldn't work so well for our band. If you have that attitude in the music industry it'll fail you. You have to let go of things... you've written songs about them, it gives you things to write songs about, but you shouldn't be out there with a vendetta against people who said you couldn't."

Member Calum Hood, meanwhile, recently confessed to Sydney's Daily Telegraph that he and the other lads were 'outcasts' before finding each other in the band:

"When we joined the band we were definitely outcasts - we weren’t bullied but we were outcasts. Being in the band just cemented everything, we’re brothers now, best friends."
