5SOS on One Direction support slot: 'They've given us the biggest opportunity of our lives'

Australian heartthrobs 5 Seconds Of Summer recently supported One Direction at Dublin's Croke Park and went from the venue straight to the set of 'The Late Late Show', where they sat down for an exclusive new interview.

Speaking to the host about being able to tour with the 'Story Of My Life' superstars, member Ashton Irwin, who drums for 5SOS, explained that there's no sense of competition between them and they're just honoured to be along for the ride:

"They've given us the biggest opportunity of our lives, you know? We're just from my garage in Sydney."

Guitarist Michael Clifford added: "They asked us a year ago now if we wanted to support them on their arena tour. We were like, 'it'd just be stupid for us to turn it down'. Even though we're a guitar-driven band..."

Irwin then admitted that being referred to as a boyband doesn't really bother them, but they would like to be seen in a different light because of their influences and preferred musical style: "That was the one thing about starting this band - people started calling us a boyband. We had no idea we were a boyband. We are just playing our guitars and look up to bands like Green Day and Blink-182."
