Kerrang! editor on 5SOS: 'They're rubbish, but if they help someone discover real music it's awesome'

James McMahon, the editor of Kerrang! magazine in the UK, recently gave his opinion on Australian pop-punk band 5 Seconds Of Summer after they recorded a Green Day tribute for the publication's upcoming compilation CD

Writing on Twitter earlier today (May 29), he explained that after voicing his views on the rising stars he was criticised by their fan base, but does think that by bringing pop-punk to the masses they might help expose other bands that this new generation should definitely listen to:

"I did a tweet saying that 5 Seconds Are Summer are rubbish. Because, y'know, I'm a 33 year old man with a beard. Now I am feeling THE WRATH. Here's what I think about 5SOS as Kerrang! Editor. They are rubbish but if they help somebody get into The Descendants one day, then AWESOME."

The 'Don't Stop' lads, meanwhile, are also nominated in this year's Kerrang! Awards and are up for the Best International Newcomer prize. For the title, they'll go head to head with the likes of Issues, We Came As Romans, Crossfaith, and State Champs.
