5 Seconds of Summer drummer Ashton Irwin says his life "would be made" if Green Day heard their cover of 'American Idiot'.

The Australians put their own twist on the song for Kerrang! magazine's tribute CD of the 2004 album of the same name.

The tune seems to have gone down well with fans and drummer Irwin took to Twitter to state his hope that Green Day might one day hear their song.

He said: "I wonder if Greenday will ever hear our cover? Lol :) my life would be made hahaha :) morning guys! How are you x."

The band meanwhile picked up the Best International Newcomer prize at last night's (June 12) Kerrang! Awards.
