5 Seconds of Summer reveal songwriting inspiration

5 Seconds of Summer have opened up about where they get inspiration for their lyrics.

The band are due to release their self-titled debut album in the coming days and they caught up with news.com.au to discuss whether their lyrics are autobiographical.

Michael Clifford concluded that the Australians tend to write songs from both their own perspective and other people's.

He said: "Some of the songs, it’s like...we wrote about things we have gone through and experienced, for sure. But yeah, some of the songs are written from someone else’s perspective, like 'She Looks So Perfect' is about someone’s girlfriend who wanted to run.

“But songs like '18', me and Luke were pissed off we weren’t able to drink legally or go out anywhere, we were both 17 and we were in the UK. We wanted to go out so badly."
