5SOS Reveal How They Chose Their Band Name: “We Also Had A Non-Serious Name”

Australian hitmakers 5 Seconds Of Summer have opened up about the origins of their band name in a new interview with 60 Seconds and also revealed another potential title they considered before sticking with their chosen one.

Member Calum Hood confessed that they came up with the name at school after a brain-storming session and it was actually guitarist Michael Clifford who suggested it to them via a text message:

"I remember we were in science class when we were probably 15 and just writing a bunch of band names on a piece of paper... not paying any attention to anything the teacher was saying. We hated every one of them. Michael went away and texted us, he was like, 'how about the name 5 Seconds Of Summer?' We were all like, 'alright, that's fine'."

Hood added: "When you're in a band in school, you never really think it's going to amount to much."

Fellow bandmate Luke Hemmings added that there were a series of other band names thrown around before they decided on their actual moniker: "There's a non-serious one... it was called Bromance."
