5 Seconds of Summer want to keep going for another 50 years

5 Seconds of Summer have stressed their desire to keep being active for decades to come.

The Australians have shot into the mainstream consciousness over the last year and this week they unleashed their debut album.

However, drummer Ashton Irwin told the Daily Star that they are thinking long-term when it comes to the future of the quartet.

He said: "We’d love to still be here in another 50 years. For me as a fan, one of the coolest things is growing up with bands and seeing them evolve. I started listening to Green Day when I was 11, and I still listen to them now. They deliver the soundtrack to your lives."

The sticksman meanwhile added that he is pleased the group have amped up the rock on their album despite being signed to a major label.

He said: "This is nothing but us. People thought we would be watered down because we signed to a major label. But we found a really supportive group of people and put out an album that we’re really proud of."
