5SOS on fan safety at shows: 'We fight hard for you and there's nothing worse than seeing you crushed'

Australia's very own 5 Seconds Of Summer performed live in Barcelona last night (July 8) as part of One Direction's Where We Are tour and member Ashton Irwin stressed that fan safety is of utmost importance to them.

Writing on his official Twitter page, the drummer explained that it's stressful for them as a band to see members of their audience getting pushed and struggling to breathe, which is why they try so hard to keep things calm and to keep their followers safe:

"Me and the lads really fought for any mosh at all at the tour, it's too hard to keep you guys safe, nothing worse then seeing people being crushed, battered and bruised whilst on stage, sorry if some of you are upset about it."

He went onto add that 5SOS only have their fans' best interests at heart and he hopes they aren't 'upset' with the way security handles the crowd: "We don't want you to get hurt and be turned into pretzels that's all I am saying hahahaha."

5SOS, meanwhile, recently spoke out about their admiration for One Direction and confessed that without the 'Story Of My Life' superstars they probably wouldn't have had as much success so they're grateful for every opportunity they have given them: “We don't see 1D as competition, we see them as mates. We wouldn't be where we are now without them. At the end of the last tour we crammed them in the room to thank them. We had just come off stage but we did a big sweaty group hug."
