5SOS thank rock magazine Alternative Press for 'believing' in them

Australian heartthrobs 5 Seconds Of Summer have thanked Alternative Press magazine for standing by them and believing in them as a pop-punk band.

The 'She Looks So Perfect' hitmakers are often referred to as a boy band, but they have just shot a cover photo for Alternative Press, which is a publication that focuses on underground music genres, and member Calum Hood shared a picture of the cover along with a message of gratitude for the company:

"Massive deal for us being on the cover of @AltPress! Thank you to the alt press team for believing the band."

Back in May, the AP published an article about the lads in which they praised them for bringing pop-punk to the masses: "You don’t have to like them. You don’t even have to listen to them. Just be open to the opportunity this Australian quartet represent for the genre and the pop-punk bands you do love. Before signing to Capitol Records, the group got their start by posting cover songs on YouTube by bands like A Day To RememberMayday ParadeAll Time Low and Blink-182—most of whom they cite as their influences."

Writer Matt Crane added: "Our poppy Australian hopefuls may be the spearhead of the sonic assault that leads pop-punk to the mainstream throne."

5SOS recently won a Kerrang! Award for Best International Newcomer, which saw them beat the likes of Crossfaith, We Came As Romans, and Issues. British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran also spoke out about the lads and reinforced their credibility as a band

"I think they're really good. I think they've got great voices, I think the songs are good, I think their overall appeal is good. They're actually a guitar-playing band who appeal to the boy band generation, but aren't a boy band. They're like Blink-182 or Green Day or Sum 41."
