5SOS on starting the band: 'It was like our escape from reality'

Australian heartthrobs 5 Seconds Of Summer have revealed that they grew up in an area that didn't seem to appreciate musicians, so starting a band was a way to get them away from that.

Calum Hood explained to Virgin Radio that starting a band, for them, was something of an 'escape': "It was kind of like our escape from reality, really. Because where we're from it's not really cool to be a musician."

The band's drummer, Ashton Irwin, admitted that they're all really excited about the success they've achieved so far and can't believe that so many people support them by coming out to their shows:

"We're still pretty surprised that people even come to see our band. We turn up at every gig going, 'woah, people actually came? This is awesome.'"
