5 Seconds of Summer pay respects to late Robin Williams on Twitter

5 Seconds of Summer are the latest music act to express their sadness at Robin Williams' death.

The 63-year-old comic legend died on Monday (August 11) in a suspected suicide.

A rep confirmed that the actor - who appeared in films such as Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting - had been "battling severe depression".

5 Seconds of Summer bassist Calum Hood took to Twitter to say: "Very very sad news. Rip Robin Williams."

Bandmate Michael Clifford added: "RIP Robin :(."

A myriad of other musicians have also paid tribute to Williams, with Demi Lovato saying:

"Really sad about the passing of Robin Williams...A comedy LEGEND who filled SO many hearts with warmth and laughter...

"Looking back at how much Robin Williams was a part of my childhood...My heart is so sad...my prayers are with his friends and family..."

Simon Cowell added: "I can't believe the news about Robin Williams. I am so sad. I never met him but just know he was a great guy. Rest in peace. This news hit me really hard and makes you realise that any life lost is a tragedy.

"I wasn't thinking. So upset. I did meet Robin on Idol. Crazy. Warm. And as I said a great guy."
