5SOS's Ashton Irwin: 'I thought, 'We're all gonna get the f**k out of here with this band''

Australian pop-punk band 5 Seconds Of Summer have revealed that being able to make music together is a dream come true as it has allowed them to escape the lives they were living before finding fame.

Speaking to Rolling Stone recently, drummer Ashton Irwin explained that it was always something he wanted to do so decided to pursue it because he felt as though he had nothing to lose:

"I always wanted to be in a band with a bunch of dudes who loved Green Day and all that. So just going onstage and playing Blink-182 covers really f**king bad – it was the coolest thing ever."

Referring to the part of Australia they all grew up in, Irwin added that it wasn't at all 'nurturing' and he saw the band as a way to finally be able to escape that and make a life for himself: "It's not a nurturing place for music. As soon as I met these guys I thought, 'We're all gonna get the f**k out of here with this band.'"
