5SOS: 'We love the fact that people can't quite put their fingers on what we are'

Australian heartthrobs 5 Seconds Of Summer have confessed that despite being tired of constantly getting referred to as a boyband, they like the fact that people are often confused about how to define them and their sound.

Following their iTunes Festival performance in London recently, member Ashton Irwin opened up about people's perception of them and explained that it's funny to see the public struggling to find them a suitable identity:

"At the end of the day, we started out very organically and never set out to be a boyband. We're just a band, you know? We started in my garage - I play the drums and these guys play the guitars, and we write songs."

He continued, adding that it can't be a bad thing if people find it challenging to pigeon-hole them: "I think if you're confusing people, you're doing something different. I love that people can't put their fingers on what we are, and that's a good thing."
