5 Seconds of Summer's Ashton Irwin to fans: 'You saved me from working at KFC full-time'

5 Seconds of Summer drummer Ashton Irwin has thanked the band's fans for enabling him to pursue music as a career.

The Australians are currently one of the hottest properties on the market and they continue to see their stock rise.

Speaking on Twitter on Thursday night (September 11), Irwin said that if it wasn't for the band's fans then he might be working in the fast-food industry.

Irwin said: "Big love to you guys, you saved me from working at KFC full time, and I'll forever be grateful."

5 Seconds of Summer meanwhile recently performed a live cover of Green Day's 2004 hit 'American Idiot'.

The Australians previously recorded a cover of the track for Kerrang! magazine.

The live cover took place at Los Angeles' House of Blues on September 10.
