5 Seconds of Summer have admitted that it has been hard being away from their home country so much recently.

The band hail from Australia but their prolonged touring schedule means they aren't back home very often.

Speaking to their native country's Sunrise TV show, Calum Hood said that it has been "hard" to have to avoid Australia so much.

He said: "We moved out of home and left everything at home and we were like 16 and 15. So it's been a hard few years for us, but it's definitely worth it and I hope we're making out parents proud."

The group meanwhile are currently touring North America as support for One Direction.

The next date on the tour is a show in El Paso on September 19.
