5SOS: 'YouTube was our second priority - we just wanted to be an amazing live band'

Australian pop-punk outfit 5 Seconds Of Summer have revealed that uploading covers of popular songs to YouTube was never really a 'priority' for them because they always felt that making sure they were a tight live band was much more important.

During an interview with Young Hollywood, the guys were asked about their impressive rise to fame and they explained that posting cover videos to YouTube was definitely part of it, but that wasn't the most important thing to them in terms of what they wanted to achieve:

"YouTube was our second priority. We just wanted to be an amazing live band, you know? So we'd do that, then we'd go, 'damn, we haven't done a YouTube cover in like two months'. So we would pick a song and put our own spin on it. After two takes, we'd just put it online."

Back in the summer, heartthrob Ashton Irwin told VEVO that while they were getting their act together at school, they were just focused on trying to be a 'credible' band and were doing whatever they could to transition the group from a passion to an actual career:

"5 Seconds of Summer was just a joke to them. We really worked hard to be a good band. We did everything we could to be a good, credible band."
