5 Seconds of Summer have spoken of their desire to start the next "chapter" in their musical journey.

On Sunday (October 5) the band played their final show supporting One Direction on their Where We Are tour.

The Australians have warmed up for the boyband for most of the year and they took to Twitter to express their excitement at what is to come next.

Luke Hemmings said: "Daaaaaaaaamn, what a ride. Can't wait for what's next!"

Calum Hood meanwhile added: "Bittersweet day today. Sad to be leaving the 1d tour but happy to be starting a new chapter. Couldnt repay what they've done for our band :)."

Next up for 5 Seconds of Summer meanwhile is two dates in Mexico on October 8 and 9.
