5SOS axe UK & Japan concert plans after Ashton Irwin is hospitalised

Australian heartthrobs 5 Seconds Of Summer were scheduled to perform at the upcoming BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards this weekend, but the band's drummer has fallen ill with appendicitis and has been admitted to hospital.

The 'She Looks So Perfect' pop-punkers confirmed the news via their official Twitter page this afternoon and posted a message, which explains that Ashton Irwin needs surgery so they've had to cancel their overseas obligations:

"Bad news.. Ash isn't well & is in hospital w appendicitis, so we wont be able to travel to the UK for the @BBCR1 Teen Awards this weekend :( This means we have to cancel our UK & Japan trips this month so Ash can get better... Can't wait to see you all soon."

They also issued a statement to BBC Radio 1, which reads: "Ashton has come down with a case of appendicitis and had to have an operation. He’s doing great and will be back up & running in no time, but he’ll need to rest up for the next week or so… Unfortunately this means that we’ll no longer be able to fly back to the UK this weekend for the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards. We will also be postponing next week’s trip to Japan (more info to come soon)."
