5SOS: 'DerpCon was created to help our fans make memories they can tell to their kids years later'

Australian pop-punk heartthrobs 5 Seconds Of Summer have revealed that their recent convention was something they created so that they could give back to their fans.

The band's drummer, Ashton Irwin, told 7 News that DerpCon was incredibly special to them as they want to help their fans create lasting memories:

"If my favourite band invited me overseas to see a gig, I would have been so over the moon. I think it's an incredible experience and I hope they tell it to their kids, like 'when I was younger my favourite band flew me overseas and I got to do all this cool stuff'. I think it's going to create good memories for us and for them, too."

Calum Hood added: "It's a really special moment for us... it's our first ever headline arena sold-out show and we wanted to bring everyone around the world to share this with the band as they've got us to this point."

Earlier this week, meanwhile, Irwin took to his official Twitter page and confessed that the DerpCon weekend was one of his most enjoyable times so far:

"Hello! I just wanted to make a video to tell you guys and thank you guys for everything this weekend - the past weekend. It's been one of the most incredible weekends of my life. I can't believe we got to headline two Forums and got to play a show in Phoenix... I can't wait to take the show everywhere in the world and to see as many of you as we can. I love you so much."
