5 Seconds of Summer drummer Ashton Irwin has revealed that he could have died recently if he got on a plane.

The Australian confirmed in October that he was suffering from appendicitis and had to go to hospital for an operation.

It meant that the band had to cancel some overseas live performances, but Irwin has told The Sun that he could have died if he flew on a plane.

He said: "If I went on a plane it would’ve burst – and I was meant to get on a plane that day.

"[The appendix] was taken out but they wouldn’t let me keep it. You can’t do that anymore."

Irwin meanwhile has since made a full recovery and 5 Seconds of Summer have resumed their duties.
