5 Seconds of Summer have thanked their fans for giving them a platform to share their music.

The group's fanbase has grown massively over the last year following a world tour with One Direction and the release of their chart-topping debut album.

Speaking on Twitter today (December 23), the Australians had an emotional moment of reflection.

The quartet thanked their devotees for letting them create music and share it with the world.

They said: "Seen an old friend for coffee today, they were saying how happy our music makes them...Which resulted in me becoming a little emotional.

"Thanks for the opportunity to share our music with your hearts and ears...Thanks for everything so far. And everything to come."
