5 Seconds of Summer reckon their new material is "killer".

The Australians are currently writing and recording their second album.

Speaking on Twitter on Wednesday (February 4), the quartet exclaimed:

"Hope everyone's day is awesome...The new tracks are soundin KILLER."

The group later uploaded a photo of guitarist Michael Clifford in the studio playing banjo.

The band are in the studio with Goldfinger's John Feldmann and producer and sound engineer Zakk Cervini, who has previously worked with We Are the In Crowd. 

They also recently uploaded a photo of themselves at a studio with Nickelback's Chad Kroeger.

The pop-punks' self-titled debut album was released in 2014.
