5 Seconds of Summer star Ashton Irwin has reflected on the recent developments in technology.

The drummer took to Twitter overnight to raise the notion that even just the last five years have seen great leaps in technology.

He added that it is a great "time to be alive" - although the Australian did add a note of caution.

Irwin said: "We have progressed in technology more in the past 5 years than ever in the history of the human race...

"What a time too be alive...I think? [sic]"

5 Seconds of Summer meanwhile are currently recording their second album.

The band's self-titled debut record was released last year.
