5SOS's Michael recalls pyrotechnics accident: 'I thought I had lost my sight'

Aussie heartthrobs 5 Seconds Of Summer have been touring the globe on their Rock Out With Your Socks Out jaunt and during a concert at London's Wembley Arena on June 13 guitarist Michael Clifford was injured in a scary on-stage pyrotechnics accident.

He walked into the path of a shooting flame and was burned, and told The Sun newspaper that it was a genuinely terrifying moment:

"It was so scary, I walked into an open flame. At first, I couldn’t open my eye. I thought I’d lost my sight. Getting back on the stage the next day was weird. I had this big ugly bandage on my face. I didn’t like that. It wasn’t the best show I played."

Clifford went onto add that he was incredibly relieved after a trip to the doctor because he discovered his injury was easily treatable and nothing too serious: “I went to an eye doctor and luckily it was treatable. There will be no more pyro. I’m done. The same thing has happened to Metallica frontman James Hetfield and Michael Jackson."

“Before this, I’d never taken pyro briefing seriously. You really have to rehearse and I learned that the hard way. Thankfully my injuries were treatable.”
