5 Seconds of Summer: 'It was our dream to get guitar music on the radio again'

5 Seconds of Summer star Michael Clifford said that one of the initial aims of the band was to see guitar music back on the radio.

The Australians exude a punk-rock sound, yet they have achieved massive mainstream success.

Speaking in a new interview with Hot Topic, guitarist Michael Clifford said that it has taken a "long time" for the band to get to where they're at.

He said: "Ever since we started being in a band, it was always our kind of dream to get guitar music being on the radio again.

"It's taken us a long time to get there, and a lot of people definitely didn't want us to try and do something different. But we stuck to our gut."

Drummer Ashton Irwin added: "It's our fans that get us through. It's our fans that get our music spread around the world.

"Whether or not that's leading some type of movement...it's just a great thing that our fans allow our band to exist."
