5SOS: 'A lot of people didn't want us to try and do something different'

Aussie pop-punkers 5 Seconds Of Summer have revealed that they were met with some resistance when trying to carve out a name for themselves in the alternative music scene, but decided not to let themselves be pushed into doing something their hearts weren't in and were successful.

During a new interview with Hot Topic, the heartthrobs opened up about their battle to get guitar music popular with young people once again and admitted that people in the industry weren't always supportive of their vision. Michael Clifford said: "Ever since we started being in a band, it was always our dream to have guitar music be on the radio again. It has taken us a long time to get there - a lot of people definitely didn't want us to try and do something different, but we stuck to our gut..."

Drummer Ashton Irwin went onto add: "It's our fans that got us through. It's our fans that spread our music around the world and whether or not that's leading some kind of movement, I mean, it's just a great thing that our fans allow our band to exist. It's awesome."
