5 Seconds of Summer star Michael Clifford has toned down talk that has been suffering from mental health problems.

The guitarist this week said on stage in Detroit that he saw a counsellor during recent downtime in the band's schedule.

He said: "I was fixing some problems with my mental health.

"I just saw a therapist real quick on the break we had."

Speaking on Good Morning America today (August 21), Clifford suggested that the problem isn't as big as some people are making out.

The musician said: "I think that was just a time last week where it was taken a little out of context.

"It was a thing that happened for me, and it's all good now."
