5 Seconds of Summer have opened up on the learning experience they had when supporting One Direction.

The pop group have taken the Australians under their belt over the last few years by giving them support slots on their tours.

While 5 Seconds of Summer have now evolved into a headline act in their own right, they are still grateful of some of the lessons they took from life on the road with One Direction.

They said to Notion magazine: "Their story is very different to ours. Their type of music is very different to ours as well.

"It's a different type of journey, but to see how they've done it and the way they treat their touring crew is something we've learnt from.

"We just want everyone that works for us to be happy, and we wouldn't have known how to do that unless we'd toured with One Direction."
