Ashton Irwin recalls his early teenage drummer days

5 Seconds Of Summer heartthrob Ashton Irwin has revealed that he is proud to use Zildjian cymbals and shared a few anecdotes about his rise to fame as 5SOS's drummer.

In an interview for the cymbal manufacturing company, the 'She's Kinda Hot' sensation admitted that he's had a varied experience with percussion instruments over the years:

"I've been in a series of bands in my life. I've played everything from jazz-funk to being in an African ensemble where I played a djembe - lead djembe - highlight of my career. I joined 5 Seconds Of Summer when I was 17-years-old... I'm now 21."

Irwin went onto talk specifically about using Zildjian cymbals, joking that he used the same set for seven years and they lasted so long because he didn't hit them hard enough due to his 'tiny teenage arms':

"My first set of cymbals were the ZBT's... big green box with Trés Cool on the cover. These were some shiny cymbals. I took them out of the box and was so proud of them. I'd had these crappy second-hand cymbals all my life that were picked up from junkyards and now I had my fresh set of ZBTs."

"They lasted me all the way up to that first gig in 2014... from 2007! They're definitely durable... I wasn't hitting them too hard because I was playing with 7A sticks back then because I had tiny little arms and I was just a tiny little teenage dude."
