On January 28th 2013 Dr Meaker present ‘Shak Out’ / ‘No Money No Jobs’, the new collaborative double-A-side featuring Bristol grime/hip hop crew Astroid Boys & Joe Peng.

Well ahead of release, the 'Shak Out' video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U5ROQEpwR8, has received 342,000 YouTube views plus BBC 1Xtra, 6 Music and Radio 1 plays from Rob da Bank, Toddla T, Huw Stephens Phil Taggart, and Jen & Ally for ‘BBC Introducing’.

A gigantic, electronic-bass-skank spanning old and new school sounds, ‘Shak Out’ combines a nod to the Prodigy’s ‘Everybody In The Place’, SL2’s ‘Way In My Brain’ and hard, modern dubwise grime.

Providing the chorus for ‘Shak Out’ is Bristol legend Joe Peng, an MC who carved his name at the original Fantazia, Perception, Dreamscape and Universe raves. Peng has MCd for Jumping Jack Frost, Kenny Ken, Sy, Slipmatt, Seduction plus Carl Cox, and is now signed to Tricky’s new Island records offshoot Brown Punk.

‘No Money, No Jobs’ is a frenetic, attitude-heavy audio juggernaut that in the bands own words, is a dancehall anthem for the lost generation, and a tribute to the poverty-stricken yet endlessly enthusiastic ravers of 2012.

Ever the prolific creators, in addition to ‘Shak Out’/‘No Money No Jobs’ plus recent smash single ‘Fighter’, (released on the legendary  V recordings), Dr Meaker recently performed a live D&B rendition of Adele’s 'Skyfall' for the 1Xtra Live Lounge. It’s caused much excitement, with Trevor Nelson, Ace, Sarah Jane Crawford and Annie Mac not only playing, but getting genuinely excited about it too.

Further highlighting Dr Meaker’s blowing-up of BBC 1Xtra, they were in the top 30 most played acts on the station last month (above Rihanna), plus they’ve been playlisted twice and gained 2 Records Of The Week (for 'Music In The Night' and 'Fighter').

Dr Meaker have played BBC Radio Live Lounge sessions for MistaJam and Tom Robinson, done a guest mix for Bailey on 1Xtra and will soon be interviewed by Pete Tong on his feted Radio 1 show.

Other BBC radio support has come from Zane Lowe, Edith Bowman, Nick Grimshaw, Friction, Bailey, Twin B, Ace and Vis, Ras Kwame, DJ Target, Crissy Criss, Tom Robinson and Don Letts.

Dr Meaker have also been playlisted at Ministry Of Sound radio for ‘Music In The Night’, and ‘Fighter’, not to mention support from DJ Hype (Kiss FM), plus plays on Rinse and XFM.

If all that wasn’t impressive enough, the ‘Fighter’ video has gained a massive 227,000 plays on the UKF YouTube channel and the track will be featured on the forthcoming UKF ‘Drum & Bass 2012’ compilation.

A band for whom the distinction between any genre, be that dubstep, drum and bass or the  multitude of post modern bass mutations, Dr Meaker can smash a dancefloor with as much (if not more power) than a DJ, but this isn’t ‘live dance music’, it’s simply a great band doing what they do.

Describing their sound as New Bristol Bass Music, Dr Meaker started their journey in 2004 as a Bristol-based sound system comprising of both electronics and instruments. The band soon built up a strong following, while their hyper-frenetic amen-and-dread-bass combo ‘Rubber Gloves’ gained the attention of Rob da Bank, who played the track on his BBC Radio 1 show.

Clive Meaker then successfully won funding from the BBC’s Urban Talent Bursary award scheme, which he used to fund the making of the bands debut album ‘A Lesson From The Speaker’.

The band entered the Glastonbury Festival Unsigned Competition and were the outright winners of the Dance Music category. This gained them an interview with Huw Stevens, a nod from Zane Lowe on his show and a prime time slot in the Dance Village at Glastonbury Festival.
The biggest buzz for the band, who are keen fans of Glasto, was to have Michael Eavis give the band the accolade of being “fantastic”.
After winning the prized Glastonbury slot, a flurry of gigs and festivals followed as the band released their first single 'Moving And Grooving’. The debut album 'A Lesson From The Speaker' and the single ‘Bad Boy Calling’ followed, gaining radio plays on BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, 6Music, XFM and Jazz FM.

Dr Meaker have released 5 singles since their album; ‘Double Bass’, ‘The Fix ft. Pyrelli’  ‘Higher’ Ft. Redskin, Music In The Night; and ‘Fighter’. They’ve remixed a track for  William Orbit ’s ‘Optical Illusions’ album, Mr Fogg’s ‘Moving Parts’ and The King Blues’ single 'Headbutt'.

They then the co-produced 'We are Fucking Angry' and 'Futures' for the The King Blues’ album 'Punk & Poetry', and remixed their single 'Set The World On Fire'.

The band consist of Clive Meaker (producer, keyboards & vocals), Lorna King (vocals), Tom Wheeler (Drums), Dexter Edmund (Bass), Jon Winder (Trumpet) & Ben Wood (Sax).

Following a slew of smash records this year, plus storming shows at the Isle Of Wight, Boomtown Fair, Beautiful Days festival, the Snowboarding championships in Switzerland and a storming Fabric gig, Dr Meaker look set to own 2013.
