Rihanna samples Lavigne on LP

Rihanna is set to sample the vocals of Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne on her upcoming album, 'Loud'.

The R&B singer has taken a clip of Lavigne's 2001 worldwide hit, 'I'm With You', and used the words on her own new track, 'Cheers'. The song features the lyrics: "Everybody put your glasses up / Cheers to the freakin' weekend / I drink to that / Everybody put your glasses up / Don’t let the b**tards get you down / Drinks on my mind and my mind on my money."

The 'Rude Boy' singer has also collaborated with Nicki Minaj on her new album, which promises to be "sassy, fun, flirty [and] energetic".

The track 'S&M' is reportedly "the naughtiest song of all". It features the lyrics: "I may be bad but I'm perfectly good / There's sex in the air / I don't care / I love the smell of it / Sticks and stones may break my bones but chains and whips excite me."

Rihanna's LP, 'Loud', is out in November.

Take That's 'Progress'

Take That have announced the title of their new album.

The LP is to be called 'Progress' and is their first recorded with Robbie Williams for 15 years. It has been produced by Stuart Price and was recorded in New York last year in September.

In August Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams conducted their first interview since reuniting, with BBC Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles.

Williams said, "I spent the last 15 years thinking what I was going to say. We had that big chat and the most amazing thing happened at the end of it, we both said sorry to each other and we both meant it. That's all we needed. It just lifted so much off my shoulders that I didn't know was still there."

Prior to the records release, Barlow and Williams' duet, 'Shame', is set to be released on October 4. The track will also appear on Williams' upcoming greatest hits album, 'In And Out Of Consciousness'.

Take That's album, 'Progress', will be out on November 22.

P Diddy performs first UK gig for five years

P Diddy performed in Glasgow's The Old Fruitmarket venue last night (September 29) in front of a 1,500-strong audience.

The 40-year old spent time meeting fans around Glasgow before the gig, which was a free event organised between MTV, Glasgow Marketing Bureau (GCMB) and EventScotland.

The 'MTV Crash Glasgow' night saw P Diddy perform tracks from his upcoming album, 'Last Train To Paris', with his new group Diddy-Dirty Money, which includes bandmembers Dawn Richard and Kalenna.

The latter passed notes to journalists stating: "Dawn and I aren't background singers simply standing next to Diddy .... Diddy-Dirty Money isn't just more of the same. It's an organic group that grew out of a shared passion for music".

The Scottish unofficial national anthem, 'Flower of Scotland', was played after the band took to the stage, and P Diddy encourage the audience to sing along.

Skepta and Jodie Connor were the support acts.

A 'behind-the-scenes' programme about the event is scheduled to be aired on MTV this Saturday (October 2) at midday BST.

According to E Online, Mariah Carey was at Los Angeles International Airport in a wheelchair recently after injuring herself during a fall.

The singer was performing in Singapore last weekend when her stiletto shoes caused her to tumble on stage and hurt her ankle.

Her representative, Cindi Berger, said, "Mariah twisted her ankle in Singapore and should have packed more sensible shoes, but she doesn't have any."

She continued, "I'm sending her a pair of flats today."

Carey joked about the incident on Sunday via her Twitter page, writing: "TY SO much to my fans in Singapore!!! Yeah, several hectic moments, (lol!) but I tried to swirl them into festive! (sic)"
Watch a clip of her onstage fall below:

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees

Gene Simmons of KISS has spoken before of his band’s ongoing snub from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

He’ll probably have more to say today given that KISS have once again been snubbed, though ironically the press release announcing the nominees acknowledges KISS in announcing that without them there would have been no Alice Cooper, just one of the new list of nominees.

The rest of the list in full: the Beastie Boys, Bon Jovi, Chic, Neil Diamond, Donovan, Dr. John, the J. Geils Band, LL Cool J, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, Donna Summer, Joe Tex, Tom Waits, and Chuck Willis.

Repeat nominees include the Beastie Boys, Chic and Donna Summer. Tom Waits, for starters, is a first-time nominee while some of the names are less familiar. Chuck Willis began his career as an R&B stalwart before crossing over into more mainstream pop. Joe Tex is an old rival of James Brown’s.

Inductees will be announced in a few weeks’ time with a starry induction ceremony due to be held next Spring.

Michael Buble spoofs Bieber

You just can't move for Justin Bieber these days, even in the work of other artists.

In Michael Buble's new video for the insanely catchy ‘Hollywood’, the super-talented Canadian (“at least one of this pair can sing” joked one commentator) spoofs fellow Canadian Bieber (19 years his junior!) during what is meant to be an appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s still beyond influential TV show.

Buble reveals a never-before-seen sense of humour, musically anyway, in the video which also sees him “starring” as assorted cliched rock and pop celebrity-types while actually espousing a fairly serious message. “Hollywood is dead, you can find it in in your head....” he repeats throughout the song. He’s talking emotionally not literally of course.

The ‘Crazy Love’ version of ‘Hollywood’ will be available on October 25. And Buble’s ‘Crazy Love’ US tour begins in November.

Trent Reznor scores

One name sure to benefit from 'The Social Network' movie has to date enjoyed little attention during the film's persistent media chatter.

Let's correct that right here: Trent Reznor, Mr Nine Inch Nails, is the man behind the film’s occasionally ominous score.

Director David Fincher was no stranger to Reznor, having used NIN music in his suitably dark 1995 movie ‘Seven’ (on which Brad Pitt met his future fiancee Gwyneth Paltrow). Fincher was anxious to re-employ Reznor. Reznor wasn’t so sure. "In all honesty, when David mentioned it was a movie about the founding of Facebook, I was like, 'What the...,' " Reznor told the LA Times. "I wondered how that could be interesting, but, knowing the level of excellence and integrity he brings to everything, I got the script from him. And then it became clear."

The film’s 19-song soundtrack, on which Reznor collaborated with frequent colleague Atticus Ross, is being marketed almost as cannily as the film. It was released in digital form yesterday and arrives next month on CD, audio-only Blu-ray and vinyl.

Clearly Fincher wanted Reznor badly because, in an unlikely Hollywood promo arrangement, the soundtrack is being released not by a major record company as an official film companion piece, but on Reznor’s own label Null Corp.

Reznor, a longtime defender of downloaders’ rights, is actually in competition with Amazon. The digital album, number one on Amazon’s top album downloads chart, is selling (evidently very well) for $2.99.

"As much as I hate the corporate partner idea,” Reznor admitted to the LA Times, “for this particular case it felt right."

Did Rod Stewart wear the trousers?

There are law suits and frivolous law suits. And law suits which take an oddly long time coming.

Latest in the latter category is the one filed against Rod Stewart by designer Karen Matthews alleging that Stewart has not paid up for clothes she was commissioned to design for his wedding to Penny Lancaster in 2007.

A representative for Matthews told TMZ, “The clothes were never paid for in full and (Rod) kept the rest of the clothes without ever returning what hadn’t been paid for."

A publicist For Stewart (who will play eight shows at Las Vegas's Caesars Palace in November) responded, telling TMZ, "(Stewart's wedding suit) wasn't produced on time and was ill-fitting and totally unusable. He had to buy a proper suit at the last minute."

The matter will be resolved in court in November.
