Blue Peter asks viewers to Dream Big

Blue Peter has launched its Dream Big competition, asking viewers to create their very own dream story, for the chance to win one of the show’s best prizes of all time.

To coincide with BBC’s Get Reading campaign, Road Dahl 100 (the 100th birthday celebrations of one of the world’s best storytellers), and the launch of The BFG movie, Blue Peter is offering the UK’s most imaginative children the opportunity of a lifetime.

Starting from today until 12 noon on 23 May, Blue Peter is calling for viewers aged between six and 15 years old to create their very own dream story, the sort that the BFG would love to catch on his midnight travels. To enter, viewers will need to write a plot summary outlining their story, including the setting and original characters, and draw a creative storyboard with the key scenes of beginning, middle and end.

The winner will work with a top animation studio to have their dream story turned into an animated sequence; they’ll then attend the red carpet premiere of The BFG in July, and be in with a chance of showing Steven Spielberg, director of The BFG, their very own dream animation!

British screenwriter and daughter of Roald Dahl, Lucy Dahl, will join a stellar judging panel, which will also include 12-year-old actress Ruby Barnhill, who stars as Sophie in the film adaptation of the Roald Dahl children's novel.

The winner will be announced mid-July, and will be invited to the Blue Peter studio for its special Orange badge* competition-winners’ show in July. The top 15 runners up (five from each age group: 6-8 / 9-11 / 12-15) will receive a Blue Peter Orange competition badge, and the top three finalists will be invited to attend The BFG premiere in London.

Lucy Dahl says: “I’m so excited to be one of the judges in this very special Dream Big competition. My dad told me bedtime stories every night, and at the end of each story he told me dreams could come true - and now it's your turn to Dream Big!”

Viewers can apply via the Blue Peter website bbc.co.uk/cbbc/shows/blue-peter where full terms and conditions are also available.

Watch Blue Peter every Thursday at 5pm on CBBC.
