Special guest stars join Citizen Khan for series five

The nation's favourite loud-mouthed, tight-fisted, but big-hearted self-appointed community leader Mr Khan (Adil Ray) and his long-suffering family return to face more trials and tribulations, in the prime time, award-winning series.

This series opener sees Mr Khan having to bare all after forgetting his wedding anniversary, which includes a chance meeting with Sadiq Khan, The Mayor of London.

Having been made to sleep in the car by Mrs Khan after forgetting their wedding anniversary, Mr Khan is on a mission to make amends. But his boast to Dave (Matthew Cottle) that he knows local boy Moeen Ali backfires when Amjad suggests he could get the famous England all-rounder to make a celebrity appearance at the fundraiser that Mrs Khan and Shazia are helping organise.

Mr Khan has no option but to get to the cricket match and find Moeen and do whatever it takes. The great British public can look forward to quite a reveal. Guest starring, Sadiq Khan, Test Match Special’s Jonathan Agnew and former England Cricket Captain Michael Vaughan.

Other storylines include a Peaky Blinders tribute on the streets of Birmingham; a family funeral which almost turns into several funerals; a memorable trip to Alia's University with flashbacks to when Mr Khan had more hair on his head than on his face; and a Muslim fun day at the Mosque with special guest Baroness Warsi.

The series will culminate in a very special festive Christmas episode, A Khanderful Life. A Khan Christmas hat tip to the Frank Capra film classic as The Khan’s go back in time to when Mr and Mrs Khan first moved into their home in Sparkhill, guest starring Lynda Baron.

Guest stars this series include: Sadiq Khan (The Mayor Of London), Harry Enfield, Niky Wardley, Ricky Grover, Lynda Baron and Baroness Warsi.

Mr Khan is a loveable, larger than life character, with strong opinions and big dreams. The challenges he faces are those of many fathers: how to make ends meet, keep Mrs Khan (Shobu Kapoor) and his family happy and continue to be the pillar of the local community. Now a grandfather to the children of Shazia (Krupa Pattani) and Amjad (Abdullah Afzal) Mr Khan's problems are increasing as much as his waistline. Not forgetting younger daughter Alia (Bhavna Limbachia) who now has a boyfriend or as Mr Khan likes to think 'a friend who is a boy'.

The Executive Producer is Rebecca Papworth and the Producer is Anil Gupta (Goodness Gracious Me, The Office). The Directors are Nick Wood (Fresh Meat, Not Going Out) and Karl Rooney. Citizen Khan was created by Adil Ray and is written by Anil Gupta and Richard Pinto (The Kumars at No 42, Goodness Gracious Me), James Cary (Bluestone 42, Miranda) and Adil Ray.
