Martel Maxwell joins the presenting line-up for BBC One Daytime’s Homes Under The Hammer

Martel Maxwell has been announced today as the new presenter of Homes Under The Hammer joining current favourites Martin Roberts and Dion Dublin.

Martel joins Homes Under The Hammer as it starts its 21st series and will appear on screen from June.

Martel says: "I'm so excited to be joining the Homes Under The Hammer team. Property runs through my family - from plastering to building homes through the generations. It’s in my blood. I can’t wait to get started alongside Martin and Dion."

With over a decade’s journalism experience Martel has regularly featured as a reporter on The One Show and BBC Scotland across television and radio.

Dan McGolpin, BBC Controller of Programming and Daytime, says: "Martel is an experienced broadcaster with an infectious enthusiasm for improving Britain’s homes, she is the perfect addition to the Homes Under The Hammer presenting team."

Martel takes over from Lucy Alexander who stepped down as a presenter in July 2016.

Homes Under the Hammer airs every day at 10am on BBC One, averaging 1.2m share so far in 2017.

After training to be a lawyer, Martel became a journalist, chosen as The Sun’s first graduate trainee. She spent a year at London’s City University prestigious print school and did a spell working for newspapers in Sydney, she was offered a staff job and reported on news, features and sport before specialising in entertainment. Following her instincts, she moved into broadcast and is called upon to interview world-famous celebrities for ITV’s Lorraine, while presenting on broader topics from potatoes to parenting for the likes of the One Show and prime time programming on
