The rackets are out, the strawberries and cream are being prepared and the words ‘quiet please’ will soon become a familiar phrase.

Wimbledon 2017 kicks off on July 3 and BBC Sport are ready to serve up another thrilling Championships.

This year sees the BBC celebrate 90 glorious years of broadcasting Wimbledon. Coverage of The Championships started on radio back in 1927 and a decade later TV viewers were also able to switch on and catch the action. Fast forward to 2017 and the BBC now provides an extensive multi-platform offering for fans which ensures they never miss a minute of the much cherished summer tournament. This year, the BBC is extending its coverage even further by broadcasting the main show court from the Wimbledon qualifying tournament, thus building the excitement ahead of the main event and offering tennis fans even more live action.

Over the 90 years we have been able to capture so many of Wimbledon’s greatest moments, from those early days of radio commentary to the unprecedented access to the event that we have available now. We are delighted this year to be able to offer tennis fans even more live action by adding qualifying matches at Roehampton to our already extensive offering.”

Sue Barker will once again be at the helm of the BBC’s Wimbledon television coverage, presenting daily from the heart of the action at the All England Tennis Club. Over the two weeks Sue will be joined in the studio by a top class line-up, including tennis legends Martina Navratilova, John McEnroe and Billie Jean King.

This year also sees the welcome return of Boris Becker to the BBC commentary team. Three times Wimbledon champion, Becker will give his expert analysis on the matches and joins a stellar line-up which includes Vijay Amritraj, Tracy Austin, Jamie Baker, Chris Bradnam, Charlie Brougham, James Burridge, Pat Cash, Andrew Castle, Matt Chilton, Andrew Cotter, Annabel Croft, Barry Davies, Jo Durie, Peter Fleming, Paul Hand, Tim Henman (pictured above), John Inverdale, John Lloyd, Dan Lobb, John McEnroe, Ronald McIntosh, David Mercer, Nick Mullins, Peter Odgers, Mark Petchey, Louise Pleming, Simon Reed, Gigi Salmon, Sam Smith, and Liz Smylie. Reports and features will come from Lee McKenzie, Ore Oduba, Rishi Persad and Phil Jones.

BBC Two will be the home of the nightly highlights programme, Today at Wimbledon, led by Clare Balding (pictured above). Live from the open air studio by The Hill, Clare will give viewers the lowdown on the events of the day’s play and have expert analysis from the world of tennis.

In addition to hosting the live coverage, Sue Barker, for whom The Championships have been a huge part of her life for 50 years, will be taking an inside look at what Wimbledon means to those who have picked up the coveted trophy in a special BBC One documentary. Sue travels far and wide to catch up with tennis greats including Pete Sampras, Martina Navratilova, Roger Federer and defending men’s singles champion Andy Murray.

BBC Radio 5 live will be live from the All England Tennis Club throughout The Championships bringing colour, commentary and compelling content to listeners every day from midday. Eleanor Oldroyd and Tony Livesey lead the coverage on the station while over on 5 live sports extra, Karthi Gnanasegaram presents the coverage of the day’s early matches

Offering their unique analysis to 5 live’s coverage will be a host of former tennis champions and experts including Pat Cash, Jana Novotna, Mary Pierce, Leon Smith, Annabel Croft, Mats Wilander, Mark Woodforde, Miles Maclagan, Jeff Tarango, Tracy Austin, Fabrice Santoro, Jeremy Bates, Naomi Broady and Naomi Cavaday.

BBC Sport’s tennis correspondent Russell Fuller (pictured above) leads the commentary team which includes David Law, Gigi Salmon, Jonathan Overend, Vassos Alexander, Iain Carter, Alastair Eykyn, Philip Studd, Delyth Lloyd, Alastair Bruce-Ball and Sara Orchard. On reporting duties will be Dot Davies and Catherine Whitaker.

Jonathan Overend and a panel of experts will reveal Wimbledon’s Greatest Moment in a special 5 live programme (June 28, 8.30-10.30pm) which counts down the top 10 highlights from the past 90 years of The Championships, as voted by the public. Plus, to celebrate BBC Radio’s anniversary year, 5 live will take listeners through the past nine decades of Wimbledon, reflecting on a decade a day during the tournament.

Charismatic former Wimbledon champion John McEnroe will once again return to host 6-love-6 as he takes calls from listeners and is joined by guests for a lively take on the tournament so far.

Digital

Audiences will have the chance to capture even more of the action at Wimbledon with BBC Sport’s extensive digital service.

Ahead of the tournament a dedicated page on the BBC Sport website and app will bring live action from Roehampton as Wimbledon qualifying matches are broadcast live for the first time. Then as the main event begins bbc.co.uk/sport will be home to 15 live HD video streams which will provide text commentary and audience interaction in one place throughout the tournament. The streams will offer rolling highlights, in-depth pundit analysis, infographics and live votes, with six of these video streams also available on BBC Red Button.

Current men’s singles champion Andy Murray will continue his popular blog on the BBC Sport website, giving an unprecedented insight into his journey through each round.

Fans will also be able to get closer to some familiar BBC faces and special guests as BBC Sport offers a range of activities and content across its social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. This will include a number of live videos, short-form action clips, 360 video, behind-the-scenes insights, news and live action updates. Fans are encouraged to join in the conversation, and the most insightful contributions will be curated and featured in BBC coverage.

BBC Regions and Local Radio

BBC Scotland will have daily reports on the progress of Andy Murray and his compatriots whilst BBC Regions and Local Radio will follow the progress of all the British players, including those in the wheelchair and junior events.

Plus, on Tuesday 4 July, the Georgey Spanswick Show, which is broadcast across Local Radio, will come live from Wimbledon from 7pm.
