‘scuffling brush beats, jangling acoustics and warped, wheezy vocals are dangerously addictive and, as the grooves thicken and congeal, it becomes apparent that the band also owes much to the shuffle-pop of Dark
Captain’ For Folks Sake

'Like Elbow, if Guy Garvey had forgotten to take his anti-depressants for a week' SupaJam

‘Vocals, provided by Dan McLachlan, are rough in all the right places, giving him an almost sensual sound as he leads us through the tale that this song tells' Pop Fodder

Pistols at Dawn release their final single for 2012 in the shape of ‘Fugitives’, taken from their debut album ‘Tarnation’ (released earlier this year).  ‘Fugitives’ is released on December 3rd and again displays the bands’ signature stripped back instrumentation, set against a down-tempo groove, with Dan’s woozy vocals floating above the mix.

Pistols At Dawn is Dan Mclachlan (lead vocals/guitar/keys/beats), Jim Calverley (bass), Matt Ball (drums) and Dave Williams (guitar). Together they create a heady mix of 70s folk, fused with beat-driven psychedelia. Their last release Man Wolf Man’ was well received, with favourable comparisons to Elbow and Dark Captain.

The ‘Fugitives’ video is a black and white cinematic affair, shot by BBC director Stephen Pook (Blur and ‘Can Anyone Beat Bolt’) and was filmed over two days in locations across London.  The idea behind the video was to evoke a road trip distilled into a music video. The song itself isn't a happy story and the video reflects that  - from the opening scene it is meant to be relentless and almost suffocating. We are not supposed to know what is chasing the protagonists, just that they have to be constantly on the move.

The Fugitives video represents to some extent an ongoing theme with Pistols At Dawn, which is the meeting of the city and the countryside - think electronic beats against acoustic guitars. The video has a deliberate mix of urban street scenes and countryside.

Earlier in 2012, Pistols At Dawn released their debut album ‘Tarnation’ on their indie label Tres Beau Records. This first venture saw them blend slow burn, lo-fi beats with folk-tinged acoustic sounds and garner some very flattering comparisons to Fleet Foxes and Beck.

Pistols at Dawn will be playing the following live date before they release the ‘Fugitives’ single on 3rd December:
