Bjork speaks out against free streaming: "It just seems insane"

Following the rush release of her latest album and the decision to not make it available on streaming platforms, Bjork has spoken out against music being available for free.

The Icelandic musician released ‘Vulnicura’ digitally back in January, two months ahead of its original March issue date, due to an online leak. However, Bjork refused to make ‘Vulnicura’ accessible via free streaming services.

Speaking to Fast Company about her objections to streaming models, Bjork stated: “This streaming thing just does not feel right. I don’t know why, but it just seems insane.”

She explained: “To work on something for two or three years and then just, oh, here it is for free. It’s not about the money; it’s about respect, you know? Respect for the craft and the amount of work you put into it.”

Bjork’s stance against streaming follows on from Taylor Swift’s action last year of removing her music catalogue from Spotify.
