Bon Jovi donates $1 million to New Jersey Superstorm Sandy relief fund

Iconic rocker Jon Bon Jovi returned to his hometown of Sayreville, New Jersey earlier today (July 8) where he made a generous donation to the relief fund set up to help those impacted by hurricane Sandy last year.

The storm ripped through the state in October 2012 and the star presented a cheque for $1 million (£668,788) to Gov. Chris Christie and first lady Mary Pat Christie. Speaking about his decision to help financially, the 'Livin' On A Prayer' legend explained:

"My being here is not political. It’s emotional. The unsung heroes are the volunteers who without notice helped house, feed, clothe and just comfort."

Bon Jovi is a co-chairman of the storm relief fund and he also headlined a fundraising event, which also saw performances from the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Sir Paul McCartney,
