Boy George has told Adele to give up smoking if she wants to maintain a healthy voice.

Adele has recently suffered a number of vocal problems, causing a slew of gig cancellations, but Boy George said that speaking from experience, cigarettes and singing don't mix.

The Culture Club man told the Sunday Mirror that he gave up smoking six months ago, and hasn't looked back since. He said:

"If you're a singer and you smoke it really isn't a great idea."

"I gave up smoking six months ago which was the best thing I ever did. I used to try to convince myself it made me sound jazzier."

"It was very difficult to give up but I'm so glad I did."
