Carrie Underwood to Lucy Hale: 'Just be strong. Country music needs more strong females'

Country beauty Carrie Underwood has given some words of advice to the genre's newcomer, actress Lucy Hale and expressed the importance of strength as a woman in the music world.

Speaking to MTV at the TIME 100 Carpet in New York, Underwood confessed that if there's any advice she would give Hale it would be to always stick to her guns and stand up to herself:

“Just be strong. Country music is definitely in need of more really strong females.”

Hale's debut country album, entitled 'Road Between', is officially released today (June 3) and she told MTV News that it will show fans a different side of her personality as they'll be used to knowing her for her role on 'Pretty Little Liars':

"A lot of people know me as Aria from ‘PLL,’ but a lot of people don’t know Lucy. They don’t know my story, and the things that I’ve been through, and what I stand for. I think after listening to the album, they’ll get a clear idea of who Lucy Hale is as a human being.”
