Carrie Underwood on country music: 'We sing about real stories'

Carrie Underwood believes that at the root of country music is "real stories".

The singer is one of the top names in the genre and she performed at the London Roundhouse on Monday (September 21) at the Apple Music Festival.

Speaking to Reuters before going on stage, the US star said that country music has a "universal" theme that can be appreciated by all.

Underwood said: "I definitely get that country music has most of its culture in the (United) States and in the southern part of the States.

"But we sing about real people and real stories and people that work hard, and I feel like that's universal.

"So country music has evolved a lot over the decades and I feel like there's a lot of artists like myself that are just working hard to break stereotypes and just bring good music to everybody.
