Welcome to the Jungle: SAS: Who Dares Wins returns to Channel 4

The smash-hit Channel 4 series SAS: Who Dares Wins returns later this month as four ex-Special Forces soldiers take a group of 25 new civilians deep into the Ecuadorian jungle.

Anthony Middleton will again lead the team of 'Directing Staff', joined by Jason 'Foxy' Fox and Matthew 'Ollie' Ollerton. Together they'll push the recruits to undertake extreme tests of physical and psychological fitness, all of them based on the real Selection process. Each is designed to force the recruits to confront their inner weaknesses and reveal the true strength of their character.

In moving location for this second series, the programme is mirroring the phases of SAS selection. Selection begins in Wales, where series 1 was filmed, before moving remaining recruits to the second jungle stage.

The jungle environment itself cannot be underestimated and the recruits will have to contend with challenges at every turn.

Ant Middleton, Chief Instructor:

"The hills phase is the first phase of selection; it's just the ticket to a jungle. Now you need to prove that you can deal with the harshest environment in the world; that you can operate in it. This phase is all psychological. It's designed to bring out certain characteristics and certain attributes that you don't know exist within yourself but you will find out once you're on selection. You're not designed to conquer the jungle, all you can predict is that you've got two feet and you can put one foot in front of the other."

Joining the team this year will be Mark 'Billy' Billingham. During his 27 years' service with the SAS, Billy was an instructor in the jungle phase of selection and reached the rank of Sergeant Major. He received the Queen’s Commendation for Bravery and was appointed a Member of the British Empire. He has also worked in private security for several A-list Hollywood celebrities including Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Kate Moss, Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe and Clint Eastwood.

The first series was described as 'the best show on television' (The Sun), a 'thoroughly-addictive series' (Daily Mail) 'superior entertainment' (Daily Telegraph) with The Guardian commenting: 'The watermark for challenging reality shows has reached a new high.'

The series is made by the BAFTA-award winning Minnow Films. The Series Director is Alex Kiehl, the Series Producer is Sophie Leonard and the Executive Producers are Ruth Kelly and Colin Barr. The series was commissioned for Channel 4 by John Hay, Head of Specialist Factual.
