C4's Re-United Kingdom Special in support of The Jo Cox Foundation

After polling day, and with the recent divisive election and referendum campaigns behind us, Channel 4 will host a special programme dedicated to bringing people back together. Inspired by, and in memory of MP Jo Cox, the show will pay tribute to Jo and celebrate what we all have in common.

Hosted by The Last Leg team of Adam Hills with Alex Brooker and Josh Widdicombe the live 1x120’ studio based show, The Last Leg: ReUnited Kingdom (w/t), will air at 9pm on Friday 16th June 2017, marking a year since Jo’s murder.

With warmth and humour Adam, Alex and Josh will be reuniting famous foes and settling some long standing disputes as high profile guests from the worlds of politics and show business come together and put their differences aside. Cross party involvement and international faces are lending their support in surprising and interesting ways across the evening.

The show kicks off a weekend of UK wide community events, street parties and picnics organised by The Jo Cox Foundation under the banner of The Great Get Together. Channel 4 is its official broadcast partner and will be supporting the movement with programming also dedicated to the theme on Sunday Brunch where hosts Simon and Tim will be joined by celebrity guests and offer viewers delicious street party recipe ideas.

The Last Leg: ReUnited Kingdom and The Great Get Together aims to be a weekend of celebration and reconciliation as we remember the words that Jo spoke in her maiden speech to Parliament that “we are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us”.

Supporting the campaign, Jamie Oliver said “The Great Get Together marks the anniversary of Jo Cox MP's tragic murder. Led by her husband Brendan, the weekend will be a nationwide party of happiness and positivity to celebrate our communities. The Great Get Together is a reminder of what we all have in common, rather than what divides us. We could all do with a bit of love right now and I'm proud to support Brendan and emphasise the brilliant values Jo worked so hard to promote."

Brendan Cox said “Jo loved a party and I’m delighted that she is being remembered in a way that both respects her deeply held conviction that we have more in common and captures her spirit of optimism and love. Channel 4’s support in the form of this inspirational show will get The Great Get Together weekend off to an amazing start.”

Channel 4’s Head of Entertainment & TV Events, Ed Havard, said “We’re genuinely honoured to be joining forces with The Jo Cox Foundation. From the Paralympic Games to General Elections, The Last Leg has used entertainment and comedy to address important issues and so it is the perfect programme to drive home the message at the heart of this ‘ReUnited Kingdom’ Special.”

The programme has been commissioned for Channel 4 by Commissioning Editor, Entertainment, Syeda Irtizaali with Head of Entertainment and TV Events Ed Havard. The Last Leg: ReUnited Kingdom is made by Open Mike Productions with Kate Edmunds as Series Producer. Andrew Beint and Ben Wicks are Executive Producers.
