Channel 4 has commissioned a brand new 1x60 documentary How to Make Your Marriage Work from Curve Media, a revealing film that captures a snapshot of marriage in modern Britain.

Marriage is an institution that many of us have entered and everyone from Socrates: “By all means, marry. If you get a good wife, you'll become happy; if you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher” to Groucho Marx: “Marriage is a wonderful institution, but who wants to live in an institution?” has handed out their views and advice.

After forty years of declining marriages the latest UK figures suggest that marriage is on the rise, and divorce is in decline. The London Borough of Brent has one of the highest marriage rates and lowest number of divorces in the country. How to Make Your Marriage Work visits five Brent couples who tied the knot to find out what glues them together.

Ranging from seven to 47 years of marriage, we find out how our couples met, fell in love and perhaps most importantly what has kept them together. They shed light on everything from how important sex is in a relationship to the strain that children can take on a relationship and whether they’ve been tempted to stray. Sometimes touching and funny, occasionally sad they talk with disarming frankness about their love and their lives together for better or worse.

Their interviews are at times funny and at times moving as they share with us their wedding videos and talk candidly about the ups and downs of their relationships since the day they publicly pledged their love for each other. With incredible honesty, they talk touchingly about whether married life has matched up to the hopes and expectations of that joyous wedding day and whether their marriage has been for better or for worse.”
