Charli XCX: 'You have no idea how hard it is to release a free mixtape in 2017'

'After the Afterparty' hitmaker Charli XCX has revealed that trying to release her mixtape is proving to be a lot more difficult than she imagined it would be.

She took to her official Twitter page this afternoon (February 24) and explained that she is being met with some resistance because of what it means in this era to release music for free when so many platforms are exclusive or paid:

"You have no idea how fucking hard it is to just release a free fucking mixtape in 2017. Everyone's like, what about Spotify/Apple/upsetting other majors if it's free/what if people think it's ur album/what if it doesn't "do well"."

Charli XCX recently told the NME more about the mixtape in question: "It’s just songs that me and AG Cook made in two weeks in LA when I was, like, feeling really depressed. It’s 10 whole new songs basically. It’s [being called] a mixtape so it can go out for free, but it’s essentially an album, a whole new album."
