Cher Lloyd on her X Factor experience: "It messed with my head"

Cher Lloyd has been reflecting on her time as a contestant on The X Factor.

The ‘Swagger Jagger’ singer finished in fourth place on the 2010 cycle of the television talent show behind One Direction, Rebecca Ferguson and Matt Cardle. Cheryl Cole – who is returning to the new series of The X Factor this summer – served as her mentor.

Cher told the Sun on Sunday that she was a “very confused, angry 16-year-old” during her time on The X Factor.

She explained: “I felt like people thought there was something wrong with who I was. I'd go into a room and they'd talk about how they needed to change the way I dressed and did my make-up.”

The 20-year-old Syco-signed artist went on: “No-one explained anything to me and it made me feel really hurt and very angry. I behaved badly because that was the only way I could deal with it.”

Lloyd added: “If I had a 16-year-old daughter, I wouldn't let her do a show like that. I wasn't ready and it just messed with my head.”
